You’ve released your book or tarot deck into the world and now you wait for the 5-star reviews to come pouring in. You know your work is great - and hope others think so too.
But what do you do when someone leaves a less-than-flattering review? What happens when a nasty one-star critique shows up - and gets a lot of “helpful” votes or likes? Can this sink your book - or can it survive?
While no one likes to get hammered, it’s not the end of the world for you, your creative works, or your business. In fact, even famous authors such as JK Rowling receive blistering criticism too. It doesn’t stop them. And it shouldn’t stop you either.
When you’re putting your work out into the world, a thick skin (and a bit of ritual) can help you let the negative stuff roll off your back so you can keep on creating. Even if you’re made of the sensitive stuff (most creatives are), you can learn how to deal with this not-so-fun part of publishing like a total pro - and without losing too much sleep.
Our mission this year is to give you the information you need to get your book out of your head and into the world. From writing habits to collaboration, to marketing, we’ve got you covered.
In the latest Talking Shop, we’re talking about nasty reviews, haters, and how to keep your cool, even when your work is getting viciously attacked.

There is nothing better than seeing your book on the shelves of your favorite retailer. It’s a huge accomplishment.
You might be tempted to kick back and wait for the royalty checks to come streaming in. For some authors, that may be the reality. But for most of us, the book merely opens doors. We still have to max it out beyond the bookshelf.
One of the ways to do that is by creating a workshop based on the book. Workshops can be lucrative - and offer a way for your audience to connect more deeply with your work…and you.
We’ve both created workshops from our books - and they’ve been rewarding on so many levels. Now we’re giving you the skinny on how you can do this too.

You’ve released a book - congrats! The next step: marketing the heck out of it.
One way to do that is a book tour. A book tour allows you to connect directly with your audience. But they can be challenging, especially if you are a new author.
In the latest Talking Shop, we’re giving you the inside scoop on how to hit the road and make your book tour experience as pleasant as possible.

When you’re self-published, you call all the shots - and do all the work. But when you’re traditionally published, your book becomes a partnership. It no longer just you.
Which means you need to know how to successfully navigate your working relationship with your publisher.
For example, they will have a say in your book design, title, and even the marketing.
Learning how to navigate the process will make the experience a win/win for both the publishing house - and you.
Our mission this year is to give you the information you need to get your book out of your head and into the world. From writing habits, to collaboration, to marketing, we’ve got you covered.
In the latest Talking Shop, we’re talking about what it’s like to work with a publisher - including how to make it work for you and your book.

Face it: there are a lot of tarot decks and metaphysical books out there. In fact, there are more coming out every day. It’s getting more crowded than a Mardi Gras parade.
Which means: it’s harder than ever to get eyes on your work. So what’s a mystical author or creator to do?
How can you stand out when there are So. Many. Other. Talented. Folks. Out. There?
If you’re freaking out just thinking about this, we’ve got you covered.
In the latest Talking Shop, we’ve got suggestions for amping up your online presence, pre-order smarts, and public appearances. In other words, we’ll give you our 2¢ on what you need to do to make your work stand out (and what to skip).

So you’ve written a book. Congrats! It took a lot of effort to get that done. But guess what? Your work isn’t done once the book is out. You have to market that book.
Let us repeat that: YOU have to market that book. Because the real truth is: your publisher won’t do all the work for you. While they may be invested in seeing your book succeed, you have a role to do too. But don’t freak out - it’s not as scary as you might think. In the latest Talking Shop, we’re talking about how to market your book - and why you need to be as dedicated (or more) than your publisher.
